South Padre Island is home to some of the most unique sandcastles you'll ever see. The Largest Outdoor Sandcastle in the USA is located in South Padre Island, the sandcastle capital of the world. This magnificent sand structure was constructed with river sand and weighs approximately 150 tons. The process of completing the sandcastle was split into two portions, each portion taking a year. The artist, Andy Hancock, started the first portion in October 2013 and completed the entire masterpiece two years later in 2015.

Sandcastle Trail

Walk, bike, or drive through The Sandcastle Trail that takes you through a journey of about 30 sand sculptures made by professional sand artists. Lucinda Wierenga and her team put a lot of maintenance and touch-up into the already existing sandcastles while others are being built. Some sand sculptures even need to be rebuilt.

Not only do you have the opportunity to see the Largest Outdoor Sandcastle in the USA, but you can also learn how to sculpt your own sandcastles. The Amazing Walter has been teaching people how to build sandcastles since 1978 and continues to perfect his techniques on the beaches of South Padre Island. Sandcastle Lessons

Put your sandcastle making skills to the test and book a lesson with Sand Castle Lessons. Lessons vary in length with the options of 2 hours, 3 hours, or, if you're daring enough, all day long. Whether you're creative or not, all are welcome to book a lesson and enjoy learning about sandcastle building. All lessons can be found on YouTube so you'll have the opportunity to study up before you get the full hands-on experience.  Sand Castle Lessons provides all of the supplies you'll need to work with and the tools can be purchased.
